Acting Governor of Bali, Sang Made Mahendra Jaya, announced that he has proposed to the central government a moratorium on the development of tourism accommodation in Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, and Tabanan (Sarbagita) for 1-2 years, according to reporting from Tempo.
“The Bali Provincial Government has made a proposal to the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment to implement a moratorium on the construction of hotels, villas, discos, and beach clubs in the Sarbagita area for 1 to 2 years. We want to organize it first,” said Mahendra in Denpasar, on Saturday (79/24,) as quoted by Antara News.
Mahendra said, the moratorium proposal is to encourage the formation of quality Bali tourism. In addition, it is also related to the issue of converting rice fields into commercial land and the regulation of Online Single Submission (OSS) permits that do not involve the region, reports Tempo.
“I was shocked as an official, I just saw on Tiktok that there was a cliff cutting going viral, I didn’t know we already existed. Suddenly there was another big beach club in Tabanan and Denpasar, we didn’t know either. So, I was just dumbfounded,” said Mahendra.
Tempo reports that the Bali Provincial Government hopes that the limited meeting of the central government which will be led by the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves) will produce regulations in the form of presidential instructions (Inpres).
“We want to carry out the arrangement, hopefully after the coordination meeting there will be a presidential instruction regarding a moratorium on the construction of hotels, villas, discos, and beach clubs, as well as land conversion in the Sarbagita area for 1 to 2 years,” said Mahendra.
