Speaking at a coordination meeting for the upcoming World Water Forum (WWF) on Saturday (20/4/24,) Bali’s police chief, Ida Bagus Kade Putra Narendra, announced that more than 5,000 personnel will be deployed to secure the event, according to reporting from Antara News.
Scheduled for May 18 to 25 in Nusa Dua, the WWF is expected to be a bigger event than the 2022 G20 Summit, and optimal security measures will be used, Narendra said.
Thousands of police officers will be deployed to ensure the security of 33 heads of state and the president of the European Union (EU) throughout a series of events for the forum according to Antara News, who add that the security operation will be carried out for ten days starting on May 17 by prioritizing preemptive and preventive measures to ensure security during the WWF.
“Security at the 2024 World Water Forum will be similar to the G20. The venues will be divided into three rings of security,” he said.
The operation will be supported by the Polri Headquarters, the East Java Police, and the West Nusa Tenggara Police, reports Antara News.
The 10th WWF, themed “Water for Shared Prosperity,” will feature discussions on three processes, namely thematic, political, and regional.
The thematic process will cover six sub-themes: water security and prosperity; water for humans and nature; disaster risk reduction and management; governance, cooperation, and hydrodiplomacy; sustainable water finance; and knowledge and innovation, according to Antara News.
The regional process will cover four regions: the Mediterranean, the Asia-Pacific, the Americas, and Africa.
Meanwhile, the political process will comprise meetings of heads of state, ministers, parliaments, local authorities, and basin authorities.
