Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (CSER) implemented by the business sector is not only an obligation but also a strategic step in supporting sustainable development.
Made Rentin, Acting Head of the Bali Provincial Forestry and Environment Service, mentioned this during a meeting about CSER support from state-owned, regional-owned, and private companies in Bali on February 19 at the Sad Kerthi Meeting Room.
“The business sector plays a very important role in supporting the development of a greener, more sustainable Bali that is in harmony with nature,” Made Rentin explained.
Rentin emphasized that CSER not only has a positive impact on the environment but also builds the company’s reputation as an entity concerned with sustainability.
He believes that companies actively engaged in CSER will be more appreciated by the public and consumers, who are increasingly aware of the importance of social and environmental aspects in business.
CSER support includes forest rehabilitation to maintain ecosystem balance and innovative waste management for a cleaner environment. It also involves improving community welfare around forests through non-timber forest products like honey, medicinal plants, and ecotourism.
Collaboration in Environmental Preservation
Furthermore, Made Rentin also emphasized the importance of strengthening strategies between the government, the business sector, and the community to collaborate in realizing green development in Bali.
The man, who is also the Head of the Bali Disaster Management Agency, explained that the Bali Provincial Government is currently facing various environmental challenges, ranging from deforestation, water and air pollution, to the increasingly evident impacts of climate change.
Therefore, he invited all businesses to actively participate in environmental preservation efforts, whether through critical land rehabilitation, responsible waste management, carbon emission reduction, or environmental education for the public.
“The government cannot walk alone in its commitment to environmental sustainability. Collaboration with businesses, academics, communities, and society is the key to success in creating a healthy and sustainable environment,” he stated.
In the meeting, Rentin also reminded participants to bring their own tumblers as part of an environmentally friendly lifestyle and to implement the Bali Provincial Secretary’s Circular regarding the application of Governor Regulation No. 97 of 2018 concerning the Restriction of Single-Use Plastic Waste Generation.
