Bali to Host 2025 Climbing World Cup in May

Indonesia once again host the 2025 Climbing World Cup, which will take place at Peninsula Island, Nusa Dua, Bali, from May 2 to 4, 2025.

The Event Director, Robertus Robet, stated that Bali Governor I Wayan Koster has assured full support for the event. Climbing is a key sport for Indonesia in the Paris 2024 Olympics and celebrated a gold medal win by Veddriq Leonardo.

As quoted by Antaranews, Robet said, “We are happy and grateful that Governor I Wayan Koster is willing to go all out and provide full support for the Climbing World Cup in Bali,” in a written statement in Jakarta on Sunday, March 9th 2025.

Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi, one of the athletes representing Indonesia in the Paris 2024 Olympics, hails from Bali. Her presence boosts the spirit of the event. This motivates the Bali Provincial Government and the Balinese people to show their support.

30 Countries to Compete

Inspector General Herry Heryawan, Chair of the Organizing Committee for the 2025 Climbing World Cup, explained that the choice of Peninsula Island as the venue was not without reason.

“Peninsula Island offers breathtaking sea views, creating an iconic backdrop that enhances the appeal of this international event,” said Herry.

It is expected that around 30 countries will participate in this prestigious competition. Indonesia will send its top ten athletes, such as Rajiah Salsabillah, Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi, and of course, Veddriq Leonardo.

Herry hopes that Indonesian climbers, especially Desak Rita, who is the local representative, will deliver their best performance to achieve great results in this event.

“We hope Indonesia wins in its own home,” he added.

Indonesia has previously hosted Climbing World Cup three times, with the event held in Jakarta.

Boost Tourism and Local Economy

The 2025 Climbing World Cup in Bali will be organized by the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC).

However, the event’s original venue, which was planned in Nusa Dua, had to be moved to Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) in Badung due to a scheduling conflict with the Miss Universe event.

According to Suhardi Eka Prasetya, Head of the Indonesian Climbing Federation in Bali, this venue change will not disrupt the event’s technical aspects, as the IFSC, as the organizer, is professional in managing all aspects, including the construction of the climbing routes.

Suhardi, who is also a civil servant at the Bali’s Department of education, youth and sports, added that preparations for the event have already begun, with materials for the climbing routes expected to arrive in April 2025, and route setting starting in mid-April.

According to Wartabali, “We hope these preparations run smoothly until the event concludes. This championship will also serve as a great sport tourism opportunity for Bali, as many athletes, officials, and their families will come to Bali to vacation, which will undoubtedly support the local economy,” said Suhardi.
