Banyuwangi-Denpasar Fast Ferry Scheduled to Operate Starting June

The Banyuwangi-Denpasar fast ferry is scheduled to begin operations in June 2025. The ferry will have the capacity to transport up to 300 passengers with an estimated travel time of approximately 2.5 hours.

According to a report from DetikJatim, the fast ferry will dock at the Serangan Port in Denpasar as part of a collaboration between the East Java Provincial Government and the Banyuwangi Regency to enhance connectivity through maritime transport.

East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa stated, “Ahead of the June 2025 operational launch, I came here to review the required facilities. For the waiting area, I specifically asked that the design reflect Banyuwangi’s distinctive culture and atmosphere,” during her visit to inspect the preparation for the ferry’s operations in Banyuwangi.

This service is expected to improve public transportation services, with Khofifah emphasizing, “The better the public service, the more it will facilitate and enhance interactions among people from different professions, regions, and meet various community needs.”

The ferry to be operated will be 70 meters long and 5 meters wide, with a capacity for 300 passengers and an estimated travel time of 2.5 hours. “One ferry has been prepared to gauge market response. If the response is positive, we will add more ferries,” Khofifah added.

Jembrana-Banyuwangi Fast Ferry

The Jembrana Regency Government is currently working on plans for the procurement of a fast ferry route between Jembrana and Banyuwangi across the Bali Strait. This initiative aims to strengthen regional connectivity while boosting the local revenue (PAD).

Jembrana Regent I Made Kembang Hartawan explained that this fast ferry will reduce the crossing time from Java to Bali to just 15 minutes. This ferry service is more efficient compared to conventional sea transport or ferries.

As reported by DetikBali, “This fast ferry will only take 15 minutes to cross to Banyuwangi or vice versa, making it highly efficient for both locals and tourists,” said Kembang.

This strategic project in Jembrana is currently under comprehensive discussions with the relevant stakeholders. The Jembrana-Banyuwangi fast ferry is expected not only to ease mobility for residents and tourists but also to provide substantial economic benefits, particularly in the tourism and trade sectors in the Gumi Makepung area.

“The project is still in process. We ask for prayers and support from all the people of Jembrana. We hope this plan can be realized soon, and it will also become one of our sources of PAD in Jembrana,” Kembang concluded.
