Indonesian Sport Climbing Federation believes that the world record set during the third series of the 2025 IFSC Climbing World Cup in Bali marks a significant milestone that can boost the island’s international appeal.
According to Antarabali, “This means the event in Bali is gaining greater recognition,” said Chairwoman of Indonesian Sport Climbing Federation, Yenny Wahid in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Sunday.
She noted that the achievement would be recorded in history, including the host location, as long as the record remains unbroken.
The prestigious event in Bali became a historic moment for American climber Samuel Watson, who not only secured a gold medal in the men’s speed category but also broke the world record. He clocked 4.64 seconds in the final round after defeating Indonesian climber Raharjati Nursamsa, who slipped and finished with a time of 6.64 seconds.
Wearing bib number 182, Samuel went on to beat Japanese competitor Ryo Omasa in the final. Ryo was disqualified due to a false start at the beginning of his climb.
Yenny Wahid mentioned that she had observed Samuel’s training approach via social media, noting that his highly systematic method could serve as a valuable reference for the development of Indonesian athletes.
Indonesia’s Bronze Medal
The 2025 IFSC Climbing World Cup series in Bali took place from May 2–4 at Peninsula Island, Nusa Dua, featuring 221 athletes from 32 countries. Indonesia fielded 31 climbers, including 10 male speed climbers, nine female speed climbers, and six athletes each in the men’s and women’s lead categories.
In the women’s speed discipline, Indonesian debutant Kadek Adi Asih claimed the bronze medal after an impressive performance. She advanced from the qualification round with a best time of 7.003 seconds. In the round of 16, Kadek defeated Poland’s Patrycja Chudziak, finishing in 6.91 seconds while her opponent fell and failed to complete the race.
Kadek then progressed to the quarterfinals, where she overcame fellow Indonesian Susan Nurhidayah, who also slipped. Kadek posted a time of 6.96 seconds.
In the semifinals, she narrowly lost to Zhou Yafei of China, with a time of 7.32 seconds versus Yafei’s 7.28 seconds. Kadek rebounded in the bronze medal match, defeating South Korea’s Jeong Jimin, who slipped during her climb and finished in 9.00 seconds, while Kadek clocked 7.27 seconds.
According to Lombokpost, “I didn’t expect to win a medal, especially since this is my first World Cup,” said Kadek Adi Asih.
Chairwoman Yenny Wahid expressed her gratitude for Kadek’s achievement, emphasizing that sport climbing is not only about skill but also mental strength.
“Sport climbing, as a global elite sport, demands patience and strong mental focus. It’s not just about technique, but also emotional control. Still, our athletes gave their best,” Yenny stated.
Indonesia concluded the 2025 IFSC World Cup Bali with two bronze medals—won by Kiromal Katibin in the men’s speed category and Kadek Adi Asih in the women’s speed event.
