Construction of a fisheries port in Pengambengan Village in Jembrana, is officially set to begin at the end of this year. The environmentally friendly port development is a national strategic project and a priority program of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries.
This construction plan was revealed by Wahyu Sakti Trenggono, Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, during the 32nd Annual Meeting of the Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna in Nusa Dua, Monday (6/10/2025).
“Not only hygienic, but also a green port. We will manage all waste so it doesn’t pollute the sea. The industry must also comply with environmental regulations,” said Minister Trenggono.
Minister Trenggono stated that the development of this port will replace the function of the Fisheries Port in Benoa and is directed to become a center for the fisheries industry as well as an eco fishing port, a clean and well-organized marine culinary tourism destination.
“The hope is that it will also become a tourist area. So culinary tourism, seafood and so on that is odorless, very clean and so forth — we will realize that in Pengambengan,” Trenggono added.
Sustainable Fisheries
The Governor of Bali, I Wayan Koster, who accompanied Minister Trenggono at the event in Nusa Dua, also expressed full support for the plan.
“This fisheries port is important to empower Bali’s marine and fisheries potential. We want the people of Jembrana and all of Bali to directly feel the economic benefits,” said Governor Koster.
It is known that the fisheries port project in Jembrana will cost around IDR 1.2 trillion (approx USD 77,4 million). Planned since 2023, the area will be expanded from 13.5 hectares to 60 hectares, with a mooring basin of 72.5 hectares.
This fisheries port is part of the blue economy program, which targets 30% marine area conservation by 2045, measured fishing, aquaculture, and monitoring.
As the first fisheries port and eco fishing port, the project will also position Bali as a model for sustainable fisheries port management for other regions in Indonesia.
