Bali Hit Again by Extreme Weather, BMKG Issues Early Warning for Heavy Rain

Heavy rains that have inundated Bali since Monday, February 23, 2026, have caused flooding in several areas.

According to data from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), eight regencies/cities—Denpasar, Gianyar, Bangli, Klungkung, Karangasem, Badung, Tabanan, and Jembrana—continue to experience high-intensity rainfall.

Denpasar City was the worst-affected area. 23 flooding locations were reported, with water levels ranging from 30 cm to 80 cm.

The worst-hit area was Jalan Griya Anyar towards Simpang Dewa Ruci, with water levels reaching 80 cm, followed by Sanur, Renon, and Sesetan, with an average inundation of 50 cm.

In Badung Regency, tourist destinations such as Legian and Jimbaran were also inundated. Jalan Kunti and Jalan Merpati (Tuban) were flooded up to 50 cm. Officials are also still working to remove fallen trees on the main route of Jalan Sunset Road and the Kerobokan area.

Three Warning Levels

Meanwhile, Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency/BMKG in Denpasar has issued an early warning with alert levels ranging from caution to danger for moderate to extreme rainfall in Bali, forecasted to occur from February 24–26, 2026.

BMKG Forecaster, Putu Agus Dedy Permana, explained in Denpasar on Tuesday that there are 3 warning levels:

▪ Caution (Waspada): moderate to heavy rain

▪ Alert (Siaga): heavy to very heavy rain

▪ Danger (Awas): very heavy to extreme rain

On Tuesday, heavy rain with a danger level warning was forecasted for Badung, Tabanan, Gianyar, Klungkung, Karangasem, and Denpasar City. The alert level was expected in Jembrana, Bangli, and Buleleng. Strong wind warnings were also issued for Denpasar, Badung, Buleleng, Karangasem, Klungkung, and Gianyar.

For Wednesday (Feb 25), the caution level was forecasted in Bangli, Buleleng, Jembrana, and Karangasem, while the alert level was expected in Badung, Denpasar, Tabanan, Gianyar, and Klungkung. Strong winds were again forecasted in Denpasar, Badung, Buleleng, Karangasem, Klungkung, and Gianyar.

On Thursday (Feb 26), the caution level was forecasted in Karangasem, Bangli, Buleleng, Gianyar, Klungkung, and Jembrana, while the alert level was expected in Badung, Denpasar, and Tabanan. Strong wind warnings remained in place for Denpasar, Badung, Buleleng, Karangasem, Klungkung, and Gianyar.

Wind speeds on February 24–25 were forecasted to reach up to 45 km/h, with sea waves estimated at four meters in southern Bali waters on Tuesday and three meters on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, weather forecasts for tourist destinations such as Nusa Dua, Kuta, Tanah Lot, Sanur, Ubud, Bedugul, Kintamani, and Besakih indicated rain throughout Wednesday (Feb 25), with thunderstorms expected at night in Nusa Dua, Kuta, and Sanur.
