In a virtual press conference on Monday (6/5/24,) Indonesia’s Tourism and Creative Economy Minister, Sandiaga Uno, estimated that the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in Bali would potentially contribute around USD 35 million to USD 50 million to the island’s economy, according to reporting from Antara News.
Sandiaga said that between 35,000 to 50,000 domestic and foreign participants will attend the event, resulting in a high income for local businesses and boosting the local economy.
“We also believe that the World Water Forum in Bali can become a historic milestone for Indonesia and Bali to play a strategic role in water management with local wisdom,” he said.
Antara News says that the minister noted that the demand for flights to Bali has surged ahead of the forum scheduled for May 18 to 25, 2024 and that his ministry had analyzed the demand for flights to Bali to consider the possibility of additional flights during the WWF and would coordinate with the Ministry of Transportation to consider adding flights.
Indonesia was chosen to host the 10th World Water Forum, themed “Water for Shared Prosperity,” during the General Assembly of the World Water Council in Senegal in 2022. The forum is an international meeting of stakeholders in the water resources sector, such as governments, parliaments, political leaders, multilateral institutions, politicians, academicians, civil society, and business players, reports Antara News.
The upcoming forum will cover six sub-themes: water security and prosperity; water for humans and nature; disaster risk reduction and management; governance, cooperation, and hydro diplomacy; sustainable water finance; and knowledge and innovation.
