Recognizing the vital role of traffic in supporting various societal and economic activities, the Bali Police has initiated Operation Patuh Agung 2024.
This operation aims to enhance traffic discipline, alleviate congestion, and reduce the frequency and severity of traffic accidents. By addressing prevalent traffic issues such as violations and congestion, the Bali Police seeks to improve road safety across the region.
“I ask for support and cooperation from fellow related agencies and of course all the people of Bali, especially the millennial generation as pioneers of traffic safety to jointly succeed in implementing this operation,” said Deputy Chief of Bali Police, Brigadier General I Gusti Kade Budhi Harryarsana, Monday, July 15, 2024.
Budhi Harryarsana also emphasizes to all personnel involved not to ever commit extortion, in any form. Law enforcement is the last resort and is carried out firmly and responsibly, give examples and role models to the public.
“Currently we are in the era of citizen journalism, therefore I ask that the operation activities be carried out properly in accordance with SOP and the operation plan. Prioritize persuasive, humane, and educational actions to the public, before we enforce the rules, we must first implement the rules,” Budhi Harryarsana continued.
For your information, in 2023 there have been 7,466 traffic accidents resulting in the death of 655 people. This figure has increased significantly by almost twice the number of traffic accidents that occurred in 2022, which was 3,692 incidents, resulting in 508 fatalities.
The increase in the number of traffic accidents is highly correlated with the increase in the number of traffic violations over the past two years. In 2023, there were 177,425 violations. This number increased by 22% from the number of violations in 2022 of 144,841 violations.
The accident was caused by many factors, such as vehicle, environmental factors in terms of road conditions and weather, and of course human error as the biggest cause of traffic accidents, both due to violations or not being orderly in traffic.
Recently foreigners have quite often been involved in problems in the Bali region, especially traffic violations. This problem certainly needs to be addressed together for the sake of the existence of Bali’s tourism image.
This operation will be carried out for 14 days starting from 15 to 28 July, 2023. The number of personnel to be involved is 1,088 people consisting of 263 Bali Police personnel and 825 regional police personnel.
The priority targets in this Patuh Agung Operation include driving while using a cellphone, not using standardized helmets or seat belts, running through red lights, speeding, driving against the flow, to foreign and domestic tourists who commit traffic violations.
