Ministry Supports Quality and Sustainable Tourism

An official press release from the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Menparekraf/Kabaparekraf) Sandiaga Uno announced that he is ready to fully support the implementation of the 1st Indonesia Quality Tourism Conference, scheduled to be held in Bali from August 29 to 30, as an effort to strengthen the development of sustainable tourism in the country.

Sandiaga said in his weekly briefing at the Sapta Pesona Building, Central Jakarta, Monday (19/8/24,) that the conference is one of the efforts to support the development of sustainable tourism in Indonesia, something both he and the Coordinating Minister (Maritime Affairs and Investment) want to implement more transformative quality tourism in destinations.

Sandiaga said that the conference, which carries the theme “Building Quality Tourism Experiences Through Sustainable Practices and Collaborative Innovation”, is a collaboration between the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS), Bank Indonesia (BI), and the World Economic Forum (WEF).

The event will be attended by 300 participants from various ministries, institutions, local governments, tourism associations, academics, the tourism industry, and international organizations, and is expected to strengthen the mindset of sustainable tourism development and increase the Travel Tourism Development Index (TTDI) of Indonesia.

“Seeing the involvement of the World Economic Forum in this event, we can say that increasing TTDI requires collaboration from various parties,” he said.

On the same occasion, the Director of Strategic Management of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy/Baparekraf, Indra Ni Tua, added that the increase in Indonesia’s TTDI ranking from 32nd in the world to 22nd in the world is believed to be able to provide a positive impact on the development of sustainable tourism in Indonesia.

“Talking about quality, measuring it from the evaluation side, not just output, but through impact. So how does it affect the environment, how does it affect the competitiveness of our industry, and later on the economy and culture,” said Indra.

Deputy for Tourism and Creative Economy Coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Odo Manuhutu, added that this event is one of the implementations of the 2002 ASEAN Tourism Agreement related to quality tourism. “We hope this conference can strengthen the development of sustainable tourism in Indonesia and in ASEAN countries,” said Odo.

This activity was also attended by the Head of the PRP (Banking Restructuring Program) Preparation Office and Deposit Insurance Agency (LPS) Relations, Arinto Wicaksono.
