According to reporting from Detik Bali, the long-held vision of establishing a premier racing circuit on the island is on the verge of becoming a reality as the Bali Provincial Government has granted permission for the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) Bali to use assets in the Lumbanan area of Sukasada Village in Buleleng, for the development of the circuit.
On Thursday (10/10/24), representatives from IMI Bali, along with officials from the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) Buleleng, the Sukasada Sub-district Head, local community leaders, and residents, conducted a site inspection of the land intended for the project.
Detik Bali says the proposed circuit will cover 5.5 hectares and will be dedicated to training and developing motor sports athletes. It will cater to various disciplines, including enduro racing, adventure trail, motocross, grasstrack, and 4-wheel off-road events.
IMI Bali’s Daily Chairman, Tony, announced that the circuit is expected to be operational by the end of this year. He added that preparations to level and compact the land will be carried out with a personal budget of IDR 1 billion provided by IMI Bali General Chairman I Gusti Ngurah Anom.
However, Tony noted that one major challenge remains: the narrow access roads leading to the site, which currently only accommodate motorbikes.
“Improving road access is our first priority. The land itself is ideal for a motor sports circuit, and there’s plenty of water available to support the development,” Tony explained.
In the coming weeks, the circuit will be tested with an enduro race featuring motor athletes from across Bali. Tony emphasized that the circuit will play a significant role in fostering Bali’s motor sports talent, which already shows great potential, according to Detik Bali.
KONI Buleleng Chairman, I Ketut Wiratmaja, expressed his hope that the circuit will be completed soon. “This circuit will not only help in athlete development but will also give young people in Buleleng a proper facility to practice, preventing them from racing on public roads,” said Wiratmaja.
Efforts to widen the access roads are already underway, with community leaders working to engage landowners. “From initial discussions, it seems the local community is very supportive of widening the access roads,” Wiratmaja concluded.
