Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport recorded a sharp rise in passenger numbers during the third quarter of 2024, according to a report by Antara News. Between July and September 2024, the airport handled 6.7 million passengers, marking a notable increase from both the previous quarter and the same period last year.
General Manager Ahmad Syaugi Shahab said, “the number of passengers served in the third quarter was the highest compared to the previous quarters. In the first quarter (January to March), we had 5.2 million passengers, and in the second quarter (April to June), there were 6 million.”
Comparing the first three quarters of 2024 with the same period in 2023, there was also a substantial year-on-year rise. From January to September 2024, a total of 17.98 million passengers passed through the airport, reflecting a 14 percent increase compared to 15.8 million passengers in the same period in 2023. Of the total, 10.5 million were international passengers, while 7.4 million, or 41 percent, were domestic travelers, reports Antara News.
Syaugi highlighted that the third quarter of 2024 also saw a 5 percent increase in aircraft movements, rising from 101,151 in Q3 2023 to 105,979 in the same period this year. International flights accounted for 53,567 aircraft movements, surpassing the 52,412 domestic route movements.
Among international routes, the Singapore route recorded the highest aircraft movements at 9,825, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 8,178, and Perth with 5,378. On the domestic front, Jakarta led with 22,424 aircraft movements, followed by Surabaya with 6,546 and Lombok with 3,114, according to Antara News.
Syaugi noted that these figures indicate a positive recovery in airport operations post-pandemic. To support continued growth, the airport is optimizing various facilities, including expanding roadways within and around the airport, reorganizing the terminal layout, enhancing digital-based operations, and improving passenger flow management.
“Overall, operations are nearing pre-pandemic levels, and we remain committed to fostering further growth,” Syaugi concluded.
