Indonesia’s Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir stated that the establishment of Bali International Hospital (BIH) is a strategic move to meet the demand for world-class healthcare services in Bali.
AntaraNews reported that this initiative is particularly relevant due to the high influx of international tourists and the hosting of various large-scale international events on the island.
Bali, which has long been known as a leading global tourist destination, requires healthcare facilities that can cater to both tourists and local residents with international standards in order to maintain its status as a top destination.
Erick Thohir also highlighted that around 2 million Indonesians seek medical treatment abroad each year, spending a total of 90 trillion rupiahs. This presents a significant opportunity to fulfill the demand for quality healthcare services domestically.
With the establishment of BIH, it is expected not only to provide excellent medical services but also to reduce the reliance of Indonesians on overseas medical treatment.
BIH, which is the flagship hospital under the management of PT Pertamina Bina Medika, is designed to support the medical tourism sector in the Sanur Health Special Economic Zone in Bali.
Boosting Indonesia’s Medical Tourism Ecosystem
During his visit to BIH on Thursday, November 21, Erick Thohir mentioned that the hospital aims to offer world-class medical services while also playing a key role in decreasing Indonesia’s dependence on foreign medical facilities.
Erick also emphasized that BIH would significantly contribute to attracting Indonesian doctors from the diaspora back to their homeland.
These doctors can contribute to strengthening the nation’s healthcare resilience. Currently, the construction of Bali International Hospital is 92% complete, and it is expected to begin operations in March 2025.
Tribratanews adds the report that equipped with advanced facilities and world-class services, BIH will become an integral part of Indonesia’s medical tourism ecosystem, which in turn will boost Bali’s healthcare and tourism sectors to new heights.
BIH is designed as a “green hospital,” integrating modern medical facilities with sustainable environmental practices.
The hospital will have a capacity of 255 beds and will feature Centers of Excellence in cardiology, oncology, neurology, gastroenterology, hepatology, and orthopedics (CONGO).
Additionally, BIH will be equipped with state-of-the-art medical technologies such as Brachytherapy, MRI 1.5 & 3 Tesla, 256 Slice CT scan, and Linac for radiotherapy. The hospital will also offer green spaces that enhance the holistic experience of patient recovery.
With these advanced facilities, BIH will not only serve local healthcare needs but also strengthen Indonesia’s position as a top global destination for medical tourism.
