Bali Provincial Tourism Office will introduce tourist travel patterns in 2025. This pattern will include information on various tourist locations to economic centers in Bali.
To make this happen, the Tourism Office has communicated with the Indonesian Travel Agents Association (Asita) Bali. The Head of the Bali Tourism Office, Tjokorda Bagus Pemayun, stated that Asita will sell this tourist travel pattern to partners, and it is hoped that the launch can start next year.
According to Detik.com, Tjok Bagus, mentioned that the purpose of this travel pattern is to evenly distribute tourist visits throughout Bali, so that it is not concentrated only in South Bali.
“Over concentration everything is in South Bali as seen by business activities in South Bali. traffic jams, including massive development. So we are trying to propose a moratorium, and try to compile a travel pattern,” explained Cok Bagus.
New Tourism Access to North, East, and West Bali
In fact, the eastern, northern, and western parts of Bali also have specialties. So, through the tourist travel pattern, it is hoped that tourists can look at other districts in Bali a lot.
“(Tourists are centered in southern Bali) Maybe because accessibility in South Bali is the easiest. Going to the airport is close, there is a culinary center, there are several attractions as well,” he said.
This travel pattern aims to divert tourists’ attention to other areas of Bali, although South Bali is more accessible and has various attractions, including culinary and its proximity to the airport Data as of November 2024 shows that Bali has received 5.8 million foreign tourists, mainly from Australia, India, China, Europe, and Southeast Asia as well as 9.1 million domestic tourists.
Although Bali has not yet achieved overtourism (the density of tourists that exceeds capacity), the Bali Tourism Office noted that there is a high concentration in South Bali.
Tjok Bagus Pemayun explained that this phenomenon is more appropriately called over concentration, not overtourism, because business activities and settlements focus on the southern region.
Overcoming Tourist Density in South Bali
In response, the local government proposed a moratorium on hotel construction and designed a tourist travel pattern that would cover Northern, Eastern, and Western Bali.
This travel pattern is also designed to introduce natural tourism in other parts of Bali, with the aim that tourists can enjoy more experiences outside of dense areas such as Badung and Denpasar.
With this plan, tourists who follow the travel pattern will need about 5 days to explore Bali thoroughly, which is expected to extend the duration of their vacation and reduce concentration in South Bali.
