Director General of Land Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, Aan Suhanan, stated that the study regarding the planned fare adjustment for online motorcycle taxis (ojol) has entered its final stage.
The fare increase, ranging between 8 to 15 percent, will be applied based on predefined operational zones.
According to Antaranews, “As of now, the tariff adjustment study—particularly for two-wheelers—has reached its final phase. The increase will vary depending on the zones we’ve established,”
said Aan during a working meeting with Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) at the Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (June 30, 2025).
He explained that the fare changes will be implemented gradually and categorized according to three existing tariff zones.
“Some zones will see a 15 percent increase, others 8 percent, depending on the zone,” he added.
Although the technical study is complete, the Ministry has not yet set a definitive date for implementation. The next step involves socializing the plan to online transport service providers (app-based platforms).
According to Aan, the platforms have agreed in principle, but further discussions will be held to finalize the agreement.
According to CNN Indonesia, “In principle, the providers have agreed, but we will still summon them to ensure clarity regarding the fare adjustment,” he said.
In addition, the Ministry is also reviewing demands from driver partners to reduce platform service fees by 10 percent. Aan emphasized that this matter must be handled carefully, considering the vast scale of Indonesia’s online transportation ecosystem.
“The ojol ecosystem is huge. There are more than one million driver partners and around 25 million MSMEs involved in the platforms. So we are conducting surveys and in-depth analysis on this proposal,” he explained.
He assured that any final decision regarding fee reduction will fairly consider all stakeholders involved. “We will socialize the findings and ensure that all parties—driver partners, MSMEs, and service providers—are accommodated fairly,” Aan emphasized.
As of now, online motorcycle taxi fares still refer to Ministerial Decree No. KP 564 of 2022, which divides the fare structure into three zones:
- Zone I: Sumatra, Java (excluding Jabodetabek), and Bali → IDR 1,850–2,300 per kilometer
- Zone II: Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi → IDR 2,600–2,700 per kilometer
- Zone III: Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, and Papua → IDR 2,100–2,600 per kilometer
The Ministry of Transportation aims to complete all stages—including finalization, public communication, and the issuance of new tariff regulations—in the near future.
