Bali Governor, Wayan Koster, has been recognized as a pioneer in promoting the green economy and the use of electric vehicles (EVs). This recognition stems from the fact that Koster initiated various concrete actions long before these issues became global discussions.
This acknowledgment came from the Chairman of the Indonesian Electric Vehicle Industry Association, General (Ret.) Dr. Moeldoko, during a dinner reception for Electric Vehicle Conference (2025 participants held in Denpasar, Bali, on Wednesday (July 9, 2025).
“While the world is just beginning to talk about the green economy, Governor Koster has already been taking real action,” said Moeldoko in a press statement on Thursday (July 10, 2025).
One of Koster’s notable actions was to halt the use of coal for power generation in Bali. Moeldoko also firmly regarded Koster as a key figure in advancing EV adoption in Indonesia.
“When it comes to EVs, Governor Koster is a true pioneer,” Moeldoko added.
Electric Vehicles as Environmental Preservation Tools
Moeldoko emphasized that electric vehicles are more than just technological advancements—they represent a vital step in preserving the environment for future generations. He added that EVs play a significant role in the broader context of green economic diplomacy.
“This is not just about technology, it’s about building a cleaner environment for our children and grandchildren. EVs are also key in promoting green economic diplomacy,” Moeldoko added.
Moeldoko also expressed his gratitude to Governor Koster and his administration for their warm welcome and support in hosting the conference.
Governor Wayan Koster warmly welcomed the initiative to hold the EV conference in Bali, noting that it aligns well with the province’s strong push toward widespread adoption of battery-based electric vehicles.
“This event is a significant moment to strengthen cross-sector collaboration and accelerate the adoption of
EVs in Indonesia,” Koster stated.
Bali’s Green Vision for a New Era
During the event, Koster also introduced his development vision “Nangun Sat Kerthi Loka Bali” through Planned Universal Development towards a New Era of Bali.
This vision, he explained, emphasizes not only economic prosperity but also environmental sustainability and spiritual harmony rooted in local culture, traditions, and religion.
“This vision guides our commitment to environmental preservation and honoring life- sustaining resources. That’s why we implement environmentally friendly policies,” he affirmed.
As part of this commitment, Bali has introduced key regulations such as Governor Regulation No. 45 of 2019 on Clean Energy for Bali, and Regional Regulation No. 9 of 2020 on Bali’s General Energy Plan for 2020–2050.
