As a tourism destination, Ubud is considered increasingly crowded and congested. The growing number of street vendors and illegal parking is seen as disturbing public comfort and traffic flow.
Therefore, dozens of joint personnel from local government agencies in Ubud carried out enforcement actions on Tuesday morning, August 5, 2025.
The enforcement operation was led directly by the Deputy Chief of Ubud Sector Police, Adjunct Police Commissioner I Wayan Antariksawan.
“Together with the Joint Team, we are not only enforcing the rules, but also providing understanding to the vendors on the importance of maintaining public order for everyone’s comfort. This enforcement will continue on an ongoing basis,” said Antariksawan.
Important Advisories
A total of 22 joint personnel were involved in the operation, consisting of elements from the military, police, civil service police, village security officers, and traditional village guards (Pecalang) from Ubud.
They also disseminated several important advisories to the vendors, including:
- Prohibition on placing merchandise in public facilities such as roads, sidewalks, and road shoulders.
- Ban on busking, vagrancy, begging, and hawking in tourist areas.
- Prohibition on installing billboards or promotional media without official permission from the local government or traditional village authorities.
- Vendors affected by the Ubud Market fire are only allowed to sell until 7:30 AM WITA, and the area must be cleared by 8:00 AM WITA.
- Vendor vehicles are prohibited from parking on main roads such as Jalan Suweta, Monkey Forest, and Jalan Tjok Putra Sudarsana, and are instead directed to Ubud Field or Batukaru Temple Central Parking.
This enforcement was positively received by the public, who hope that similar activities will continue regularly to maintain the aesthetics and order of the Ubud tourist area.
Minimizing Potential Disruptions
About five days before the joint team carried out the enforcement, the Ubud Police Chief had already instructed the Criminal Investigation Unit to intensify Operation Sikat, which runs for 16 days with a target of at least 10 priority cases.
The Intelligence Unit was also ordered to map out vital locations such as Parq, Greenflow, Haiden City, and Gang Anila as a preventive effort against potential public security disturbances.
“This is not just about traffic, but also about Ubud’s image as a global destination. All parties must be actively involved, not just the authorities, but also the local community,” said Ubud Police Chief, Commissioner Gusti Nyoman Sudarsana.
