Bali Dolphin Cruise 2 fast boat sank at Sanur Harbor. According to the Head of the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office, I Nyoman Sidakarya, the boat was carrying 75 passengers and 5 crew members from Nusa Penida Harbor when it sank at approximately 3:15 PM local time (Central Indonesia Time).
Two Chinese nationals were reported dead, and one person is still missing. The injured victims were rushed to Bali Mandara Hospital, located less than three kilometers from the Sanur waters in Denpasar. A total of 10 people were injured, with 2 in critical condition.
“There are 77 survivors, 2 fatalities, and one person still being searched for,” said Sidakarya.
The two deceased victims were male Chinese nationals identified as Shi Guo Hong (20) and Hanqing Yu (37). The missing person is Kadek Adi (23), a crew member.
Natural Factors Suspected
Following the incident, stabilization and site security efforts were immediately carried out. The local harbor authority temporarily closed Sanur Harbor to support the evacuation and search-and-rescue operations.
According to the Benoa Harbor Authority, Bali Dolphin Cruise 2 had sailed with the correct number of passengers, ruling out overcapacity as a cause. They believe the sinking was due to natural factors.
Aprianus Hangki, Head of Benoa Harbor, stated that according to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency, wave heights at the time of the incident ranged from 2 to 4 meters.
“From our assessment, it was a natural factor. Several boats had entered safely, but this one may not have anticipated the large waves,” said Hangki, as quoted by AntaraNews.
“The boat was hit by a wave. In our terminology, it was rolled by the wave, causing it to capsize,” he added in Denpasar on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
