Denpasar Recognized as Top Child-Friendly City and Model for Urban Development

Denpasar City Government has once again received a prestigious award as a Child-Friendly City in the Top Category from the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (MoWECP).

The award was personally presented by Minister Arifatul Choiri Fauzi to Denpasar Mayor I Gusti Ngurah Jaya Negara on the evening of Friday, August 8, 2025, in Central Jakarta.

Mayor Jaya Negara was accompanied by Chairperson of the Denpasar Family Welfare Empowerment Team, Ny. Sagung Antari Jaya Negara, along with Head of Denpasar’s Office for Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection, Population Control, and Family Planning, I Gusti Agung Sri Wetrawati.

In his remarks, the Mayor stated that this award is a recognition of Denpasar’s strong and consistent commitment to upholding and protecting children’s rights in a comprehensive and sustainable manner.

“Every program we implement must be supported by a child-friendly urban environment, so children can play and enjoy public facilities comfortably. Therefore, Denpasar City Government is focused on development that supports the realization of a child-friendly city,” said Jaya Negara as reported by UpdateBali.

He further added that the award serves as “an honor and motivation for the Denpasar City Government to continue its commitment in protecting and fulfilling children’s rights,” through optimized collaboration and synergy among all sectors.

Denpasar’s success was recognized for its effective programs that benefit both children and the broader community.

Meanwhile, Minister Arifatul Choiri Fauzi explained that the Child-Friendly City award is given as a form of appreciation to regional leaders and their teams who demonstrate dedication in creating safe and supportive environments for children.

According to Diksimerdeka, “This is an implementation of the constitutional mandate and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which Indonesia has ratified through various laws and regulations,” she explained.

The assessment process took around 1.5 years, beginning with a self-evaluation by each regional government, followed by verification at the provincial level, and concluding with a final assessment by the Ministry involving relevant ministries and agencies.

Out of 464 districts/cities participating in the verification process, a total of 355 managed to achieve the child-friendly status.

Minister Arifatul emphasized that this achievement reflects the collective effort of all stakeholders in ensuring children’s rights and protections are fulfilled fairly.

“Let’s use this achievement as motivation to further strengthen the protection and fulfillment of children’s rights. Regions that have succeeded are encouraged to share best practices with those still in progress,” concluded the Minister.
