A major fire ravaged the Ulaman Eco Luxury Resort located in Kediri District, Tabanan, Bali. A total of 16 cottages or villa units at the resort were completely destroyed.
Kediri Police Chief, Commissioner I Nyoman Sukadana, revealed that the incident was first discovered by a worker named Sukiman, who was employed at the villa complex.
According to him, Sukiman initially noticed sparks coming from an electrical cable in one of the buildings.
“Witness Sukiman was working with one of his colleagues named Yanto, installing bamboo matting on the first floor of villa number 11. Then, at 10 a.m., Yanto saw sparks from a cable that was pinched by the bamboo,” Sukadana said, as quoted by DetikBali, Friday (August 15, 2025).
Sukadana explained that the fire spread rapidly and engulfed other villas. Strong winds and building materials made primarily of wood, bamboo, and thatch accelerated the flames.
According to him, workers at the site initially attempted to extinguish the fire with makeshift equipment.
“The witness then called the fire department to immediately come to the scene,” he added, emphasizing that no lives were lost in the blaze.
I Wayan Suakta, Head of Fire Mitigation Division 4 of the Tabanan Civil Service Police Unit, stated that material losses were estimated at around Rp 40 billion. A total of six fire trucks were dispatched to combat the blaze.
“Six fire trucks were deployed, 3 from Tabanan, assisted by 3 from Badung,” Suakta said on Friday. He added that firefighters needed four hours to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.
Losses Estimated at Rp 40 Billion
Footage of the fire went viral on social media. In the circulating videos, flames could be seen raging from the villa buildings near rice fields, accompanied by thick black smoke billowing into the sky.
Suakta reiterated that the fire caused material losses reaching around Rp 40 billion.
“Six fire trucks were deployed, three units from Tabanan and three units from Badung,” he said.
According to him, it took firefighters about four hours to fully put out the fire. The blaze struck the villa complex in Banjar Dukuh, Nyambu Village, Kediri District, Tabanan Regency, Bali, on Friday morning (August 15).
Kediri Police Chief, Commissioner I Nyoman Sukadana, confirmed that dozens of villa units were consumed by the flames. The fire broke out at around 9:15 a.m. local time.
“[In this incident] there were no fatalities. In total, 16 villas were burned. Material losses have yet to be fully assessed,” Sukadana said Friday evening.
He explained that after the fire was first detected by villa workers, it quickly spread throughout the complex.
Witnesses on the scene took the initiative to cut off electricity and evacuate people in the resort area. Workers also attempted to douse the fire using fire extinguishers.
However, despite using 11 fire extinguishers, they were unable to control the flames.
The fire spread rapidly due to strong winds and flammable building materials.
“About 30 minutes later, around 9:45 a.m., three fire trucks arrived at the location. From Badung, two additional fire trucks were dispatched and reached the site around 11:00 a.m.,” Sukadana explained as quoted from CNN Indonesia.
The blaze was finally brought under control after firefighters battled the flames for several hours.
“It is suspected that the fire originated from an electrical spark from a cable on the first floor of villa number 11,” Sukadana concluded.
