Part of Investment Requirements, Apple Academy Opens in Bali

Apple Academy Bali

Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry officially inaugurated the Apple Developer Academy @BINUS Bali as part of Apple’s investment commitment in Indonesia.

This academy aims to support the development of national digital talents and strengthen the innovation ecosystem based on technology.

Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita expressed his appreciation for the continuation of this program. According to him, the academy has provided facilities and curriculum that encourage the advancement of skills for Indonesia’s youth.

“Apple Developer Academy has provided facilities and curriculum that help Indonesian students develop an innovative mindset, digital skills, and expertise to become world-class developers,” Agus said in a statement on Thursday (August 28, 2025).

He added that the inauguration of the academy is not only a tangible proof of Apple’s investment commitment but also opens greater opportunities for innovation growth within the country.

“This inauguration not only marks the progress of Apple’s investment in innovation in Indonesia but also opens greater opportunities for the growth of innovation domestically. We look forward to a continuing partnership with Apple in Indonesia,” he continued.

Strengthening national digital industry

The strategic cooperation between Ministry of Industry and Apple has been formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), which serves as the basis for implementing several programs.

The program including the continuation of the Apple Developer Academy, establishment of new academies, the creation of the Apple Innovation and Software Technology Institute, Apple Professional Developers Institute, and the Apple Software Research and Development Center in collaboration with Indonesian universities through the Indonesia Chips Design Collaborative Center (ICDEC).

“The opening of the Apple Developer Academy @BINUS Bali today is part of that commitment and a concrete proof of Apple’s contribution to enhancing Indonesia’s digital talent capacity and strengthening the national innovation ecosystem,” Agus added.

The Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment, and Electronics Industry (ILMATE), Setia Diarta, emphasized the importance of this academy in strengthening the national digital industry ecosystem.

According to Detikfinance, “The presence of Apple Developer Academy @BINUS Bali is concrete evidence of Apple fulfilling its investment commitments as well as a significant contribution to producing world-class digital talents who will strengthen the national innovation ecosystem,” Setia said.

In line with this, the metal, computer, electronics, optics, and electrical equipment industries grew positively by 6.18% in the first quarter of 2025—surpassing the national economic growth rate.

Meanwhile, in the sub-sector of handphones, handheld computers, and tablets (HKT), domestic production reached 48.89 million units throughout 2024 and 14.27 million units by mid-2025.

Modern Facilities

Apple Developer Academy @BINUS Bali is located at Parc23, Denpasar, with a capacity to accommodate 220 participants per batch.

The academy features modern facilities with collaborative spaces, flexible learning areas, and conference rooms, creating a creative and inclusive learning environment.

This academy is the first international Apple Developer Academy in Asia, a collaboration between Apple and BINUS University.

The intensive program runs for nine months and is open to individuals aged 18 and above, regardless of educational background.

With a Challenge-Based Learning approach, participants are equipped with technical skills such as coding and design, as well as professional skills like leadership, communication, and problem-solving.

Since its launch in Indonesia, the Apple Developer Academy has graduated over 2,000 alumni, with 89 percent employed across various sectors, including tech startups, finance, healthcare, manufacturing, and others.

Some innovative products developed through this academy include HerLens, an AI-based application for early detection of cervical cancer, and PetaNetra, an augmented reality navigation app to assist visually impaired users.
