Bali is set to make new history in Indonesia’s digital landscape with the arrival of the country’s first Wi-Fi 7 network.
The inauguration of the Wi-Fi 7 network is scheduled to take place on October 3, 2025, at a Junior High School in Denpasar.
The launch event is expected to be attended by several prominent figures such as Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid, shareholder of SURGE (WIFI) Group, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, Governor of Bali I Wayan Koster, management of Huawei Indonesia, as well as guests from various countries.
President Director of Surge (WIFI), Yune Marketatmo, stated that Bali was chosen as the first location due to its strategic role as a hub for tourism, creativity, and digital innovation.
“With speeds of up to 2Gbps, Wi-Fi 7 opens new opportunities for education, local communities, healthcare services, and MSMEs in Bali, and serves as a model for equitable connectivity across Indonesia,” Yune said on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
What is Wi-Fi 7?
Amid the rapid development of internet technology, fast, stable, and robust Wi-Fi networks are increasingly needed.
As the 7th generation of Wi-Fi technology, Wi-Fi 7 is designed to support ultra-fast connections, low latency, and high capacity—ideal for 8K streaming, VR/AR, smart homes, and large-scale businesses.
With speeds of up to 2Gbps, Wi-Fi 7 is expected to strengthen the ecosystem of education, tourism, and the national digital economy.
The launch of Wi-Fi 7 is also part of People’s Internet Initiative in Indonesia, which is committed to providing fast, reliable, and affordable connectivity to schools, health centers, social communities, and MSMEs in various regions.
