Bali Coastal Areas Alerted to Possible Tidal Flooding During New Moon Phase

The Regional Center for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics in Denpasar has issued an early warning regarding the potential for coastal flooding, or tidal flooding, predicted to affect several coastal areas in Bali from 20 to 23 November 2025.

This warning is released as a precautionary measure so that residents living or carrying out activities in coastal zones can increase their vigilance against the possible rise in sea levels due to maximum high tides.

The head of the agency, Cahyo Nugroho, explained that, in general, tidal flooding can significantly affect community activities, especially those whose daily routines depend on operations around ports, coastal zones, and areas located close to sea level.

According to AntaraBali, He emphasized that this situation must be taken seriously because unusually high tides can disrupt various sectors, including economic activities, sea transportation, and the daily routines of coastal communities.

Cahyo stated that one of the factors predicted to trigger the tidal flooding during the mentioned period is the new moon phase occurring on Thursday, 20 November 2025.

The new moon phase is often associated with stronger gravitational interactions between the Earth and the Moon, which can lead to higher-than-normal sea levels.

For this reason, several coastal regions in Bali are expected to experience an increase in sea level that may potentially result in tidal flooding.

Based on water level monitoring data and tidal predictions, several areas in Bali categorized as potentially affected include the southern coast of Tabanan Regency, the southern coast of Badung Regency, the eastern coastal area of Denpasar City, the southern coast of Gianyar Regency, and the southern coast of Klungkung Regency.

Each of these regions has different coastal characteristics, meaning the timing of the tidal flooding both day and hour is expected to vary from one location to another.

Cahyo further explained that several community activities may be disrupted due to the tidal flooding. These include loading and unloading activities at ports, which are highly dependent on tidal conditions.

Additionally, activities within coastal residential areas may be affected by seawater entering the neighborhood at certain times of day. Other sectors, such as salt farming and inland aquaculture, may also experience impacts because changes in sea level can influence the quality and quantity of water needed for production processes.

According to Beritasatu, To help mitigate potential risks, BBMKG urges residents to continuously follow the latest updates provided by BMKG. Information regarding weather conditions, tidal predictions, and other early warnings can be accessed through the website bbmkg3.bmkg.go.id or the maritime weather portal at maritim.bmkg.go.id.

Cahyo stressed the importance of vigilance, especially for those living in areas prone to tidal flooding, so they can take appropriate preventive measures to minimize the impacts of maximum sea-level rise.
