Vineyards are often associated with countries that experience four seasons. However, travelers do not need to go far because North Bali is home to Hatten Wines Vineyard, a 12-hectare estate that grows various red and white grape varieties.
Event and Community Manager of Hatten Wines Vineyard, Reditya Candradewi, told AntaraNews on Tuesday (9/12) that visitors who wish to tour the vineyard are required to pay an entrance fee of IDR 100,000.
Located along Seririt–Gilimanuk Street in Sanggalangit, the vineyard uses modern cultivation methods, resulting in neatly arranged grapevines.
The landscape creates an aesthetic atmosphere that makes it easy for visitors to capture memorable photos.
Within the estate, there is also a small European-style castle building often used for breakfast sessions by partner hotels that collaborate with Hatten.
The expansive vineyard, combined with clear blue skies and cool air, offers a setting reminiscent of European or Australian wineries. The stone-paved walkways further enhance the beauty of the estate, which was first established by Ida Bagus Rai Budarsa in 1994.
During the tour, guests are accompanied by experienced guides who explain the grape cultivation process, harvesting techniques, and even recommendations on wine pairing for certain dishes.
One of the varieties grown here is Bali grapes, which are later processed into Hatten’s signature local wines. Visitors can participate in wine-tasting sessions and sample products such as Sweet Alexandria, Aga White, and Aga Rose. These wines are also available for purchase as souvenirs, priced between Rp200,000 and Rp400,000 per bottle.
Dewi highlighted a unique characteristic of the vineyard in Bali the grapes can be harvested three times a year thanks to the favorable climate in North Bali.
She noted, “Here, we usually harvest around August to September. During that time, tourists can join in the picking.”
During this period, tourists may have the opportunity to watch or even join the grape-picking process. Hatten Wines Vineyard is open Monday to Friday from 09.00 to 16.30 WITA, and on Saturdays from 09.00 to 12.00 WITA.
The estate is closed on Sundays and national holidays. Morning and late afternoon are the best visiting times, as midday temperatures can be quite warm.
Visitors are encouraged to wear lightweight clothing and comfortable footwear suitable for walking around the vineyard. The management also provides traditional straw hats (caping) to help protect guests from the sun.
The journey from Denpasar to Sanggalangit takes a little over two hours by car, though other transportation options are also available for a more comfortable trip.
