Digital Consumption Peaks in Bali & Nusa Tenggara During 2025 Holiday Season

As the peak of the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holiday season approaches, the readiness of telecommunications networks in Bali and Nusa Tenggara has come into focus amid rising tourist mobility and increased data usage during the year-end holiday period.

High levels of travel activity and tourist visits are expected to drive traffic surges across various strategic locations.

As key tourism destinations in Indonesia, Bali and Nusa Tenggara are projected to experience a significant increase in both tourist movements and digital service consumption.

Data traffic is forecast to rise by more than 17 percent compared to normal days, with peak usage expected to occur between 20 December 2025 and 4 January 2026.

The traffic surge is predicted to be most pronounced in tourist areas, city centers, event venues, crowded locations, airports, seaports, as well as along tourist mobility routes connecting popular destinations across Bali and Nusa Tenggara.

This trend is consistent with the heightened intensity of travel during the holiday season.

Throughout the year-end holiday period, tourists’ digital consumption patterns are expected to remain dominated by video streaming, social media usage, instant messaging applications, and online gaming.

These services are widely used for entertainment, travel navigation, and maintaining communication with family and friends.

According to Suarabali. “To anticipate this surge in traffic, Indosat has optimized capacity and strengthened its network in more than 7,800 base stations in Bali–Nusra. These efforts are focused on major tourist attractions and high-mobility locations, including Kuta, Canggu, Legian, Ubud, Kintamani, Pandawa, Uluwatu, etc.” said EVP-Head of Circle Java at Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, Fahd Yudhanegoro, during a media gathering on Saturday (13/12).

In addition, several Mobile BTS (MBTS) have been deployed in areas with the highest potential for traffic surges, such as Nuanu, Pantai Kelan, Labuansait, and Ungasan. To ensure service continuity during the holiday period, the Regional Center in Bali is operating around the clock to support early detection and rapid response to potential network disruptions.

“We ensure that the network is ready to handle traffic surges, so that customers can enjoy uninterrupted communication, from sending messages and making video calls with family to accessing digital entertainment during trips and vacations. By strengthening the network in major tourist destinations and high-mobility points, we support a better communication experience for every customer.” he explained as reported from BaliExpress.

Meanwhile, the use of artificial intelligence–based technology is also being expanded to support the quality of telecommunications services across various regions.

This technology is used to detect traffic patterns more accurately, manage network capacity dynamically, and respond more quickly to spikes in usage, particularly in tourist areas experiencing increased mobility during the year-end holiday period.

“AIvolusi5G utilizes artificial intelligence to detect traffic patterns more accurately, dynamically optimize network capacity, and provide a faster response to usage spikes, especially in tourist areas that experience increased mobility during the year-end holidays.” he added.

In addition to maintaining service stability, the technology also provides enhanced protection for customers through anti-spam and anti-scam features that operate in real time using AI-based analytics.
