Traffic congestion in Badung has been a headache for years, but the local government says they’re finally taking big steps to fix it. As 2026 gets underway, plans are in motion to open up four new roads that should help ease the jams.
Badung Regent Wayan Adi Arnawa explained that some of the land acquisition is already sorted, while the rest is still being worked out.
Once that’s done, the next stage is putting the construction project out to tender, with hopes of wrapping everything up by the end of the year.
To speed things along, the government has even applied for a loan from PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (PT SMI) worth IDR 2.8 trillion (about USD 165,000).
“With this funding, we’re optimistic that Badung can quickly open four new road sections to tackle congestion,” Adi Arnawa said on Friday, January 9, 2026, in Mangapura.

So, which roads are on the list? Here are the four main ones:
1. Pecatu – Melasti Road: Connecting key tourist spots in South Kuta.
2. Pecatu Village Market – Uluwatu Main Road: Helping smooth traffic for visitors heading to Uluwatu Temple.
3. Banjar Semer – West Teuku Umar Road: An alternative link between Badung and Denpasar.
4. Subak Sari – Banjar Semer (Kerobokan): Widening the road at one of Kerobokan’s worst traffic choke points.
The Subak Sari–Banjar Semer stretch is especially urgent, since it’s notorious for daily gridlock. That section is already lined up for physical construction, and the Regent hopes it will be finished soon.
“So, that route is already prepared for physical construction and hopefully we can get it done soon,” Adi Arnawa said.
