Banyuwangi-Denpasar Express: June Launch Confirmed Despite Setbacks

The much anticipated high-speed ferry connecting Banyuwangi and Denpasar has experienced a slight delay from its original launch date of June 14. However, operator Express Bahari confirms the ferry will still begin operations later this month.

Banyuwangi-Denpasar Ferry Gears Up for Launch, Final Approvals Secured.

Despite the delay, all legal and administrative procedures have been completed.
According to Hari Yulianto, Acting Head of the Banyuwangi Regional Port Unit:

“In terms of permits, everything has been completed by the operator; at the ministry level, provincial government, and local governments in both regions.”

He added that final preparations are focused on internal systems and terminal facilities:

“The latest information we received from the operator is that, in order to enhance internal systems and improve public service, operations will be postponed slightly.”

Shorter Travel Time, Reasonable Pricing

The ferry will cut the travel time between Bali and Banyuwangi to just 2.5 hours, significantly faster than traveling by road. The vessel, Express Bahari 1F, can carry up to 400 passengers and will operate daily except Tuesdays (reserved for maintenance).

Estimated ticket pricing:

  • Executive class: IDR 225,000 (Banyuwangi to Bali), IDR 235,000 (Bali to Banyuwangi)
  • VIP class: IDR 275,000 (Banyuwangi to Bali), IDR 285,000 (Bali to Banyuwangi)

Global Interest in Banyuwangi-Denpasar Ferry

International travel agents showed strong interest in the ferry service during the recent Banyuwangi Travel Mart 2025.

Uncle Ade Azri Reza, a Malaysian travel agent, commented:

“This [fast ferry] is a solution for Malaysian tourists visiting Banyuwangi.”
He emphasized that this service will enhance cross-island tour packages for visitors from Malaysia.

Mutashim Billah, Head of Express Bahari Banyuwangi, confirmed:

Express Bahari Banyuwangi Head, Mutashim Billah, confirmed daily trips (except Tuesdays), departing Boom Port at 9 AM to Serangan Port, Denpasar.

Stay tuned to official channels or your trusted travel agent for the confirmed launch date.

He also expressed gratitude to local supporters:

When’s the Official Launch?

Express Bahari has assured the public that the service will start before the end of June 2025, even though they haven’t confirmed the exact date. They are expected to release updates soon, so keep an eye on their official channels or your trusted travel agent.

This new ferry route marks a significant step forward in regional connectivity between East Java and Bali. Previously, travelers had to endure a longer land route or take multiple modes of transport to cross the island border. With the launch of Express Bahari 1F, both local commuters and international tourists will benefit from a smoother, more direct option.
