Along with technological advances and to anticipate potential immigration violations by foreign nationals, Ngurah Rai Special Class I Immigration Office took a strategic step by establishing the Immigration Cyber Unit.
This unit is tasked with finding and analyzing data and information related to foreigners’ activities in cyberspace, monitoring the behavior of foreigners who may cause unrest, and compiling periodic reports on immigration supervision and actions.
According to Tribunbali, The Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Suhendra, revealed that the changing pattern of immigration violations requires a new approach in the supervision of foreigners, especially in Bali.
“Supervision of foreigners must be carried out proactively. Immigration officers must be able to detect early potential violations committed by foreigners through the supervision of social media and news media. Do not let immigration violations committed by foreigners disrupt Bali’s tourism climate and harm the community. For this reason, supervision of foreigners must be carried out precisely, measurably, effectively and efficiently. We must ensure that every foreigner in Bali complies with the immigration regulations,” said Suhendra.
Since its establishment on November 4, 2024, the Ngurah Rai Immigration Cyber Unit has successfully uncovered 4 (four) cases of misuse of residence permits, with ten foreigners involved being deported.
This unit continues to monitor and collect information related to other violations through cyber surveillance.
Suhendra added that the Immigration Cyber Unit will make officers more responsive in handling violations, so that it can create a safe environment and support Bali tourism.
In addition, the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office received two awards for its performance in supervising foreigners.
The first award is the category of Imposition of the Most Immigration Administrative Measures (TAK) in 2024, with 325 cases. The Second Award was given for the successful arrest of Interpol fugitive, Lin Qiang aka Joe Lin.
