Bali’s Newest Healthcare Icon: A Strategic Project Nearing Launch

Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Erick Thohir recently visited the Bali International Hospital (BIH), a national strategic project located in Sanur, Bali.

The visit aimed to assess the hospital’s operational readiness ahead of its official inauguration. Developed by PT Pembangunan Perumahan (PTPP), the project has now entered its final stage of physical construction.

The activation of several internationally standardized healthcare facilities indicates BIH’s readiness to serve the broader community. According to PTPP’s Corporate Secretary, Joko Raharjo, the hospital reflects the company’s tangible commitment to enhancing the quality of healthcare services in Indonesia.

“We ensure this project is executed with the highest quality, efficiency, and timeliness. BIH will stand as a symbol of SOE collaboration in delivering excellent healthcare services in a world-class tourism destination,” said Joko in an official statement on Wednesday (April 23, 2025), as quoted from CNBC Indonesia.

Strong Government Support

During the visit, Minister Erick was accompanied by PTPP President Director Novel Arsyad, as well as board members from InJourney, Pertamedika IHC, and PT Hotel Internasional Sanur Indonesia.

Their presence represents strong government support for BIH, positioning it as a key referral hospital in Indonesia while also supporting the transformation of the country’s healthcare and medical tourism sectors.

BIH is designed as a modern hospital with a *healing resort* concept—integrating world-class medical services with Bali’s serene natural environment.

The hospital’s core facilities are now fully operational, including an Emergency Department with 12 treatment rooms and 4 procedure rooms, outpatient and inpatient services with a total of 45 beds, 8 operating theaters, 4 catheterization labs, 18 intensive care units, and 4 neonatal intensive care units (NICUs).

BIH also features several flagship services grouped under the acronym CONGO: Cardiology, Oncology, Neurology, Gastroenterohepatology, and Orthopedics. In addition, there is a specialized rehabilitation gym designed for injury recovery, particularly for athletes.

Uniquely, BIH is the first hospital in Indonesia to welcome medical professionals from the diaspora—Indonesian citizens who have been practicing abroad—to return and contribute their expertise at home. During his visit, Erick Thohir met one such diaspora doctor who had spent 24 years studying and working in Germany and has now returned to serve at BIH.

Cutting-Edge Technology

As a state-owned construction company established in 1953, PTPP has a long-standing track record in national infrastructure development. The company continues to innovate by adopting technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM) and ERP systems to enhance project accuracy and efficiency.

In a separate visit, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), also expressed appreciation for the dedication of healthcare workers who continuously upgrade their skills to keep pace with the latest medical technologies.

As Reported by Merdeka.com, “I highly appreciate the dedication of doctors who consistently strive to upgrade their skills in order to master the latest medical technologies while providing the best treatment for patients,” said Minister AHY during his visit to BIH in the Sanur Special Economic Zone (SEZ) on Thursday, January 23, 2025.

Minister AHY also highlighted the hospital’s strategic location within the Sanur SEZ, which offers a lush and peaceful environment that supports patient comfort and recovery. With its eco-friendly design and cutting-edge medical technology, BIH is expected to significantly enhance Indonesia’s healthcare standards and boost the country’s competitiveness in global medical tourism.
