The Badung Regency Tourism Office moved quickly in response to the viral incident involving alleged rejection of Indonesian citizens at a community running event held in the Canggu area.
Although handling and investigation are still being carried out by other agencies, the Tourism Office is also preparing preventive measures to ensure similar incidents do not recur.
Head of the Badung Tourism Office, Anak Agung Putri Mas Agung, said that as an anticipatory step, her office will encourage the implementation of a clearer notification mechanism for every community or organizer holding activities in public spaces.
“Through this mechanism, the local government hopes that every activity can be monitored from the outset — whether in terms of permits, impact on surrounding communities, or compliance with applicable regulations,” Putri Mas Agung emphasized.
Open to All Tourists
Putri Mas Agung stressed that Badung Regency remains a destination open to tourists from all countries.
However, this openness must be balanced with respect for local communities, Balinese culture, and adherence to all regulations.
“We want to ensure that the tourism climate in Badung remains inclusive, orderly, and respectful of everyone’s rights. Tourists are welcome to enjoy Badung, but all activities must respect culture, local communities, and comply with the rules,” she added.
This action by the Badung Tourism Office comes in response to the viral running community event in Canggu, which allegedly rejected the participation of Indonesian citizens and only accepted foreign nationals.
The event was also considered disruptive to traffic in the area. Alleged discriminatory practices drew widespread criticism and have now become a serious concern for the local government.
Badung Regent I Wayan Adi Arnawa reaffirmed the commitment of the Badung Regency Government to maintain order in the organization of activities in public spaces.
