August 17th is a highly anticipated date for Indonesians to celebrate Independence Day. Numerous events and festivities are planned. In Bali, one of these will take place at the Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Cultural Park.
The event, called Pesta Rakyat (People Party) 2026, has been held since 2019. It features music concerts, a culinary bazaar, fireworks displays, and various traditional games typical of the Independence Day celebrations.
However, GWK Cultural Park’s Operations Director, Rossie Andriani, revealed that the Cultural Stage element is the main element of the 2026 People’s Party.
“For us, independence is something sacred that we must celebrate nationally. We have designed the ‘PESTA’ (PARTY) concept in such a way that the entire series of events aligns with GWK’s vision and mission as a cultural icon. Hopefully, the fireworks display will further enliven this year’s People’s Party,” said Rossie at a press conference at GWK Cultural Park on Friday (July 31, 2026).
Located in an area with an iconic limestone cliff landscape, the Pesta Rakyat 2026 is also equipped with a traditional photo studio.
Bali Seasoned Burger
To satisfy visitors’ culinary appetites, this year’s celebration will feature innovative thematic menus that represent Indonesian culture.
One of the signature dishes is the ‘Sangsa Burger,’ an innovative burger with a naturally red bun made from a blend of purple sweet potato and beetroot.
The burger patty uses chicken. Seasoned with genep (a Balinese spice), complete with cassava fries instead of potatoes to enhance the Indonesian character.
To accompany the burger, the beverage menu also features a themed creation titled “Semangat Juang.” The refreshing red color of the Indonesian flag is based on strawberry punch combined with a homemade infuser.
This beverage menu is available in both non-alcoholic and alcoholic versions for those who prefer.
Visitors who have enjoyed the entertainment and culinary delights can immortalize their visit by taking photos wearing traditional Balinese attire provided by the management.
