108 Flights Canceled at Ngurah Rai Airport Following Anak Krakatau Eruption


Heightened volcanic activity from Mount Anak Krakatau has disrupted flight operations at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali. A total of 108 flights were canceled or rescheduled between Sunday (Sept. 6) and Monday (Sept. 7, 2026).

Although the eruption episode was officially declared over on Sunday, September 6, 2026, its impact lingered into Monday, September 7.

According to the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, instrumental monitoring during the September 6–7 period continued to show high seismic activity despite the end of continuous eruptions.

Gede Eka Sandi Asmadi, Head of Communication & Legal Division at Ngurah Rai Airport, said the figure was updated as of Monday (Sept. 7) at 11:00 WITA.

“From Sunday (Sept. 6) at 07:00 WITA until Monday (Sept. 7) at 11:00 WITA, we recorded 108 flights at Ngurah Rai Airport that were canceled and/or had schedule adjustments,” Gede Eka stated.


International Flights Unaffected

Bali Governor I Wayan Koster confirmed that international flights in and out of Bali were not canceled. Only domestic routes were affected by the Anak Krakatau eruption.

Koster said he had coordinated with PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports) regarding the situation.

“Yesterday I coordinated with Angkasa Pura. Soekarno‑Hatta Airport was closed. As a result, flights to Soekarno‑Hatta and other regions — including passengers from Bali heading to Jakarta — could not operate,” Koster explained after attending a plenary session of the Bali Regional House of Representatives on Monday (Sept. 7, 2026).


Routes Most Affected

Cancellations mainly involved flights to and from:

▪️ Soekarno‑Hatta Airport, Tangerang
▪️ Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, Jakarta
▪️ Husein Sastranegara Airport, Bandung
▪️ Arrivals to Bali: 43 flights from Soekarno‑Hatta, 5 from Halim Perdanakusuma, and 3 from Bandung were canceled.
▪️ Departures from Bali: 51 flights to Soekarno‑Hatta, 3 to Halim Perdanakusuma, and 3 to Bandung were canceled.

Airport management urged passengers to confirm flight status regularly with their airlines before heading to the airport.

Ridwan is one of Indonesia’s top executives with a long and illustrious career in the financial world.
