In a press release issued on Thursday (5/12/24,) the Founder of the Bali International Film Festival (Balinale), Deborah Gabineti, announced that the 18th Bali International Film Festival will be held from June 1 to 7, 2025, according to reporting from Antara News.
She said, Balinale 2025 has announced a “Call for Submissions” and invites creative, unique and inspiring independent works from Indonesia and around the world.
“Films from all genres, narrative and documentary feature films, and short films that are inspiring, impressive and entertaining, will be considered as participants,” she said.
FilmFreeway is the official submission platform for this festival. Film registration is open and started on November 30, 2024.
Gabineti explained that Balinale, as part of its commitment, will develop the local industry, support new talents, and share stories from Indonesia, adding that relief will be given to Indonesian participants in the form of free film submissions. A special deadline for Indonesian Citizen Registration will run until March 15, says Antara News.
As an Academy Award Qualifying Festival, winners at Balinale will be eligible to be considered as participants in the Best Short Film in the Oscars, says Antara News, adding that Balinale is the first festival in Indonesia to receive ‘Oscar® qualified’ recognition, and provides opportunities for short films produced in the country.
Antara News reports that the festival will last for a week, and will expand and strengthen world recognition that has been received over the past eighteen years by building a bold, intelligent, and creatively stimulating cinema program for people around the world and creating a world-class arts and education forum related to our affiliates and other organizations.
We will also continue to foster relationships with international industry partners through the Bali Film Forum,” explained Gabineti.
In 2024 Balinale screened 60 films representing 25 countries with winners selected from 24 films entered in the competition.
