Ngurah Rai Airport Records Significant Increase in International Passengers in Early 2025


International passengers at Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali, in the first two months of 2025 saw a significant increase compared to the same period last year.

According to data from the Ngurah Rai Airport authorities, during January and February 2025, the airport in southern Bali served 3,643,836 passengers, with 2,250,983 international passengers and 1,392,843 domestic passengers.

Regarding aircraft movements, there were 22,540 aircraft movements, consisting of 12,442 international and 10,098 domestic movements. International flights showed an increase, with the number of passengers rising by 11 percent, and international aircraft movements up by 7 percent compared to the previous year.

According to Antaranews,“When compared to last year, passenger and aircraft movements on international routes have shown a significant improvement,” said Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport.

International Flights Up 11%

The international route with the highest increase was Singapore, serving 384,654 passengers through 2,112 aircraft movements. Kuala Lumpur ranked second with 262,062 passengers from 1,719 aircraft movements.

According to MSN, “Melbourne became the third most popular destination with 178,170 passengers, based on aircraft movements. Perth ranked third after Kuala Lumpur, with 1,151 movements,” said Ahmad Syaugi.

In terms of nationality, a total of 1,013,700 foreign nationals from 198 countries used I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, with Australian passengers dominating, totaling 238,080 people, or 23 percent of the total foreign passengers.

Domestic Passengers Down

While international flights saw a significant increase, domestic flights experienced a decline. The number of domestic passengers and aircraft movements decreased by 9 percent and 11 percent, respectively, in line with predictions for February.

For domestic routes, Cengkareng (Soekarno-Hatta) is the busiest destination with 697,891 passengers and 4,622 aircraft movements.

The second busiest route is Surabaya, with 205,249 passengers and 1,274 aircraft movements, followed by Makassar with 81,028 passengers and 567 aircraft movements.

I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport remains optimistic that the number of passengers will continue to grow and has set a target to serve 26.4 million passengers throughout 2025.
