Speaking at the Bali Tourism Outlook Dinner Meeting in the Payogan Villa Resort and Spa in Ubud on Tuesday (30/1/24,) Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, said that Bali is looking to attract 7-million foreign tourists in 2024, which is around half of the target set for foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia, according to reporting from Tempo.
Sandiaga said that the Ministry is looking for a target of 14.3-million foreign tourists visiting Indonesia in 2024.
However, to achieve this figure, care must be taken to prevent over-tourism. “It is necessary to increase the number of flights and add travel packages that distribute more quality tourists and make them stay longer here so that the local community feels the economic impact without overburdening and causing overtourism,” Sandiaga said.
One strategy is to present unique and attractive tour packages so that quality and sustainable tourism can be maintained in Bali, reports Tempo.
Sandiaga said that these efforts are expected to accelerate the achievement of the target number of foreign tourist visits in 2024. “Hopefully, the revival of tourism in Bali can be even stronger in 2024 and achieve the target of creating 4.4-million new jobs,” he said.
According to Tempo, Bali is included in the list of tourist destinations experiencing overtourism, according to the World Travel and Tourism Council, from January to November 2023. Other world cities on the list besides Bali include Amsterdam, Barcelona, Athens, Miami, Phuket, Paris, and Venice.
