Bali Risks Losing International Diving Event Over Venue Issues

Swimming pool venues that do not meet international standards threaten the implementation of the international diving championship in Bali for September 2025.

The President of CMAS (Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques), a world diving organization, is very hopeful that the championship can be held in Bali.

On the other hand, the General Chairman of the Indonesian Subaquatic Sport Association in Bali, Bagus Partha Wijaya, said that CMAS is eyeing Bali to hold an international diving championship in September 2025.

However, there’s a risk that Bali may not be chosen as the host location due to a lack of suitable venues that meet international standards.

“President of CMAS has expressed his great desire for the championship to be held in Bali. However, because venues such as pools in Bali are not yet representative, Indonesian Subaquatic Sport Association has not been able to confirm. It is still tentative for Bali to be able to host international events,” said Bagus Partha Wijaya as reported by WartaBali.

Partha Wijaya also added Indonesian Subaquatic Sport Association has not yet decided which province will host the international event.

“Indonesian Subaquatic Sport Association knows that the pool venue in Bali is incomplete, especially related to the spectator venue. So we ready to accept to be the host, but has not yet determined the location,” he continued.

As a result, until now Indonesian Subaquatic Sport Association is still looking at which provinces have swimming pools with spectator stands.

“As long as Indonesian Subaquatic Sport Association has not decided which province will be appointed later, Bali still has the opportunity to host. It’s just that we must immediately catch up with the match venue with spectator stands,” explained Bagus Partha Wijaya.

In fact, he saw that a swimming pool that met the standards already existed in Buleleng, unfortunately the swimming pool in Buleleng still did not have a spectator stand. Even though in terms of the size and length of the pool, it has entered the requirements.

“If the pool is in Buleleng, Indonesia’s National Sports Committee in Buleleng has submitted a budget proposal for the construction of spectator stands in its swimming pool. So it does need support from the Buleleng Regency Government or from the Bali Provincial Government. I really encourage the spectator stands to be realized as soon as possible so Bali can host the International Diving Championship,” Bagus Partha Wijaya said.

Moreover, he continued, the impact will be that there will be foreign and domestic tourists who attend Buleleng, especially from the participants of the International Championship from within and outside Indonesia.
