To celebrate Denpasar’s 237th Anniversary, the Weekend Dog Festival will be held from February 27 to March 1, 2025.
The Head of the Denpasar Agricultural Office, AA Gde Bayu Brahmasta, revealed that this festival aims to provide a platform for dog lovers and support the implementation of rabies vaccination in Denpasar.
As reported by Antara Bali, “This festival serves as a venue for dog enthusiasts while also being part of efforts to improve the coverage of rabies vaccination in Denpasar.”
Exciting Activities
This Weekend Dog Festival is a collaboration between the Denpasar Agricultural Office, Bali Animal Welfare Association (BAWA), and Seva Bhuana.
The event offers various exciting activities such as healthy dog competitions, dog fashion show, smart dog contests, dog adoptions, rabies vaccinations, sterilization, and free animal health services.
As quoted by Denpasarkota.go.id, “Our first hope is to provide a platform for dog lovers, and second, to support the optimization of vaccination coverage, ultimately aiming at preventing rabies cases in Denpasar.”
Vaccination for Prevention
In 2025, it is predicted that the population of rabies vector animals (RVA), particularly dogs, in Denpasar will reach 82,195. The government aims to vaccinate 91% of this population, which amounts to around 74,904 dogs.
“We will collaborate with various parties to reach this target,” said Gung Bayu, as quoted by Suarabali.
To support rabies prevention efforts, the Denpasar Agricultural Office is conducting door-to-door vaccinations in villages and sub-districts, sterilizing stray dogs, and organizing educational activities about the dangers of rabies.
Additionally, monitoring the movement of rabies vector animals (RVA) and forming a Rabies Response Team are also part of this effort.
“Hopefully, this rabies prevention effort will continue, especially since Denpasar, as a tourist destination, heavily relies on animal health,” he added.
