DENPASAR, Bali – The island’s most anticipated cultural event, the 48th Bali Arts Festival, is set to transform the capital city into a massive month-long stage.
Running from June 13 to July 11, 2026, the festival will engage approximately 20,929 artists presenting 879 separate performances across various venues, with the main hub at the Taman Budaya Arts Centre.
A Sacred Theme for a Modern Festival
Under the theme “Atma Kerthi Jiwa Sidha Parisudha” — which translates to “Honoring the Human Soul Toward a Perfect, Clear, and Pure State” — the festival goes beyond mere entertainment.
Governor Wayan Koster stressed that all performances must creatively interpret this spiritual concept, harmonizing with Bali’s regional regulation on cultural preservation.
The event is not just a local affair, it involves traditional artists from all Balinese regencies, as well as participants from other Indonesian regions and foreign countries.
“The entire main material of the Bali Arts Festival must adapt to the theme, requiring traditional artists to be increasingly creative in developing performances as a symbol of Atma Kerthi Jiwa Sidha Parisudha,” stated Governor Wayan Koster.
Presidential Invitation and Grand Opening
The festival will kick off with a spectacular Peed Aya (grand parade) featuring 3,430 artists marching around the Bajra Sandhi Monument in Denpasar.
Governor Koster has formally invited President Prabowo Subianto to open the event, hoping to synchronize it with the president’s planned visit to discuss designating Bali as an International Financial Center.
Should the president be unavailable, a minister is expected to stand in.
The opening night at the Taman Budaya Arts Centre promises a dazzling display of dance, music, and ritual, followed by weeks of exhibitions (Kandarupa), parades (Utsawa), traditional craft workshops (Jantra Balinese Tradition), and international cultural showcases.
