Denpasar, Bali – Denpasar police are tightening oversight of foreign nationals by using the new digital platform called Cakrasi, after recent cyber fraud cases were traced to local accommodation.
Authorities recently busted a major scamming network that was set up in a Kuta guest house.
Dozens of foreign nationals initially thought to be victims turn out to be part of a cross-border cybercrime ring.
“These scammers were using a guest house in the Kuta area to carry out their operations,” said police Senior Commissioner Leonardo David Simatupang, Denpasar Police Chief.
New App Tracks Guests in Real Time
Bali introduced the Cakrawasi platform on March 13, 2026, in order to monitor foreigners.
It allows guest house and villa owners to enter real-time data on foreign guests, like their names, ID details, and the duration of their stay.
Denpasar Police Chief Police Senior Commissioner Leonardo David Simatupang emphasized that tourism business owners are now expected to proactively use the app.
“Owners of guest houses and villas must enter all foreign tourist data using Cakrawasi,” he said.
This, he explained, would help police in both preventing crimes and speeding up investigations if an incident occurs.
Call Center and Community Role
Police admitted that relying solely on technology is insufficient.
The recent scam operation was exposed thanks to public reports.
To further motivate people to speak up, authorities are now promoting the National Police Call Center 110, a toll-free, 24.7 hotline.
“This line connects directly to the integrated police service center, which will forward reports to the relevant precincts,” Simatupang said.
He added that media and traditional village security units are also key partners in ensuring that Bali remains safe for legitimate tourists while screening out criminal elements hiding behind the island’s hospitality industry.
